Convicted
Clothing was brought about by a man and his wife
with a billion ideas determined to succeed at all costs, a
very likely scenario in a very unlikely environment. Meet
Adam, an ex-con trained in prison on printing, driven by his
conviction to get back to normalcy and to give those looking
for a second chance a reason to live. 12 years in a correctional
facility hasn't’t dashed his hopes nor has it made him
any less the wiser.
When
a few business ventures began turning sour he felt it was
time to turn a corner in the popular world of economics. Prison
art has since become the preferred media of a large population
in society, attaching itself to everyone from the uber-cool
teens to the mid 50’s, and feverishly gaining more attention
and notoriety like an epidemic of mass hysteria. In a world
where art is beginning to show up more creatively, abundantly
and with purpose, a good idea was just waiting to happen.
“I was walking through my shop and noticed a drawing
(prison exported mind you) of a Viking on the wall”
he continues in thought “I need to put this stuff on
shirts”. He explained his vision to his wife, immediately
she felt it a bad idea, citing that it didn't seem very feasible
to glorify prison, background and all, instead opting to give
back with this idea.
They
have been in business now for roughly 1 and a half years and
are doing particularly well, but that’s not what drives
Adam. He and his wife choose to help others, even those he
doesn't’t know by donating a percentage of his Convicted
Clothing’s profits to non- profit organizations.
“Our mission is to give back …”
he states, of course with her approval. The Victim Relief
Organization is set up to donate money to victims of violent
crimes, and is doing very well. In addition to the Victims
Relief Organization, the company is also going above and beyond
that mark by also flourishing Angel Tree Network which provides
a Christmas for those whose family is incarcerated around
the holidays, “Why should the children have to suffer
for the mistakes committed by their parents”, he remarks.
In this, their first year in existence they were able to donate
21 bags of toys to the families of the incarcerated. If that
wasn't enough they also plan to open what they will call the
Sober Living Center, this is in sorts a second chance center
where other ex-cons learn to right their wrongs and start
anew. This is their mission: to change the world. What can
you do to change the world?
